CBIC Prescribes Declaration Mechanism for Safeguard Duty Exemptions on Steel Imports

Executive Summary

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has operationalised a system-based declaration mechanism for claiming exemptions from safeguard duty imposed on specified Non-Alloy and Alloy Steel Flat Products under Notification No. 02/2025-Customs (SG).

Importers seeking exemption are now required to declare specified information codes in the Single Window Table of the Bill of Entry to facilitate automated processing and smooth customs clearance.
