FEMA Reporting Requirements to Centralized Information Management System (CIMS) Portal

By J the App

Executive Summary

The Reserve Bank of India has introduced significant changes in the reporting mechanism applicable to Authorised Dealer Category-I Banks under FEMA by shifting specified monthly reporting requirements to the Centralized Information Management System (CIMS) portal.

Under the revised framework, AD Category-I Banks will be required to upload the monthly statement relating to opening and closure of Branch Offices, Liaison Offices, and Project Offices through the CIMS portal using Return Code “R343”.

Simultaneously, the monthly statement relating to remittances from Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) accounts has also been migrated to the CIMS platform and assigned Return Code “R006”. The revised reporting framework becomes operational from the month ending June 2026.

The migration is intended to improve reporting efficiency, standardisation, and regulatory monitoring under the FEMA framework.
