GST base price cannot be increased to retain benefit

The National Anti-Profiteering Authority found that Hindustan Unilever had increased the base prices of thousands of products immediately after GST rate reductions, so that the benefit of lower tax rates was not passed on to consumers. 

It determined profiteering of ₹383.35 crore after specified deductions, besides ₹78.97 crore relating to unpassed transitional ITC, and directed deposits into the Consumer Welfare Funds, reduction of prices and further investigation for the subsequent period.
