States Mineral Levy rights curtailed

The Central Government has introduced a significant amendment to the MMDR Act that could reshape mining taxation across India. 

The Bill proposes that States can levy taxes, cess or other charges on mineral rights only within a framework prescribed by the Centre. 

It also wipes out unrecovered State levies while protecting amounts already collected from refund claims, paving the way for a more uniform and predictable fiscal regime for the mining sector.
